Mismatched Name Association
Sometimes I find it funny how one can call someone by the wrong name. For example, one of my classmates in English class kept calling me "Jill" and for some strange reason, she keeps thinking and insisting that "Jill" is, in fact, my name. I laughed at the mere thought of that name and told her that my name isn't "Jill" and asked her how she came about with that name even before she asked what my name was (we haven't introduce ourselves yet). She shrugged and couldn't explain why either. But in my opinion, sometimes, when you meet so many people in your life, you tend to mismatch names all the time! And other times, the people whom you've known for years can be just as similar (in character or appearance) to the new people you meet everyday. I think this is why my classmate thought that I was "Jill," even though I have no clue as to where she's gotten that name. Sure, I have been called by the many variations of "Kathy," such as: "Kathryn, Kate, Katie, Kat, Kaitlyn, etc." But hey!! my name IS actually Kathy. LOL. I'm probably the only one in a million Vietnamese girls at my age with that name. I haven't met one with my name at my age just yet... *shrug*
But anyway, similar to this episode, I have indeed called someone by wrong name. In middle school, there was this girl who looked almost exactly like my friend Marianna, with the slick black curls and dark gypsy-like eyes and a bubbly laugh to fit her own individuality. Silly me, sometimes I just want to not wear my glasses just so I can rest my eyes, and so I wasn't wearing my glasses when this episode happened. But anyway, I ran down the hall to my next class and spotted the girl that looked like Marianna. I called out, "Hey, Marianna!!" And I suppose she thought I was crazy, because she had the strangest distorted look on her face, which made me laugh on the inside. Of course, the greeting wasn't returned and I just shrugged and went about my business. Later, when I was actually wearing my glasses, I spotted the girl again and double-checked to make sure if she did look like my friend, Marianna. And yes, she does!! The only slightest difference was that she was a bit chubbier than Marianna. Sure, I was tempted to yell out, "Hi!" again, but I just walked quickly by without her noticing me.
Whew! That was one heck of an episode. But I sure felt pretty silly... and a bit embarrassed, but hey, it happens to everybody, right? LOL.
Anyway, my English classmate still thinks I'm "Jill," but she knows that it isn't my name. LOL. I'll just see what happens next.
Updates:
Well, as you can see, there's a tagboard here now! So have fun tagging, everyone! Also, you should check out Haiku Fever for some brand new haiku! =)
And as for Lent, geez, what a toughie. I seriously I have no idea what I want to give up... Ice-cream or chocolate maybe? But although those two are my favorites, I don't eat them all the time... *shrug* I guess I'll just do more good deeds as my ultimate "giving up" of self. I want to acquire more patience and helpfulness. How about you guys?? =)
Well, gotta go to study for bio and chem as always!! Cya!
